Chemical dish washing Liquids , Are they safe ?

The Chemicals Hiding In Your Dishwashing Detergent: What Every Household Should Know

Did you know the global dishwashing detergent market is poised to reach over $32 billion by 2031 With dishwashing being a daily ritual for millions, the substances lurking inside these detergents directly impact our health and environment. As a chemist, I want to shine a light on this critical yet overlooked aspect of household cleaning—what goes into our dishwashing products and what those chemicals do to our bodies.

The “Bad” Side: Hidden Dangers Lurking in Household Dishwashing Chemicals

While dishwashing detergents are designed to cut grease and kill bacteria, many contain chemicals with concerning health effects. Here are some historically and scientifically proven offenders:

  • Ethanolamines (DEA, MEA, TEA):
    • Found in many cleaning agents to create foam.
    • Linked to carcinogenic nitrosamine formation and health issues including hormone disruption and tumors. These can easily penetrate the skin and build up in the liver over time, increasing the risk of certain cancers.
  • 1,4-Dioxane:
    • A byproduct of detergent production and a known carcinogen and neurotoxin. Not always listed on labels, it’s associated with skin, eye, and respiratory irritation
    • New York has even banned cleaning products with more than trace amounts of this substance.
  • Phthalates:
    • Used for fragrance stability; proven endocrine disruptors affecting DNA and brain development
  • Formaldehyde & Formaldehyde-releasing agents (like DMDM hydantoin):
    • Classified as carcinogens.
    • Used as preservatives, can cause respiratory and skin issues.
  • Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs):
    • Disrupt hormones, toxic to aquatic life, and harmful to physical development, even in low concentrations.
  • Alcohol Ethoxylates:
    • Recent studies demonstrate they can damage intestinal (gut) lining, leading to increased inflammation and health vulnerability—even at dilutions as high as 1:20,0008.
  • Synthetic Dyes & Fragrances:
    • These can cause behavioral disorders, allergic reactions, and even, in rare circumstances, contribute to cancer risk. EU regulations ban several dyes still found elsewhere34.

Impact on Human Health

  • Contact with these chemicals can cause skin irritation, allergies, and, with long-term or repeated exposure, raise risks for chronic diseases and hormone disorders.
  • There’s mounting evidence that residues from detergents, left even after rinsing, can contribute to oxidative stress in the liver and potentially trigger carcinogenic pathways over the long term.
  • Gut damage due to persistent detergent residues has been linked to increased inflammation and chronic disease risk in laboratory studies.

🚨 Fresh News & Real-World Warnings

  • A recent review by Better Homes & Gardens highlighted over 11,000 injuries in children ages 0–4 in 2023 linked to soaps and detergents—emphasizing the risk of household exposure and accidental ingestion

  • Researchers using human gut organoids and microchip models found that alcohol ethoxylates—common in rinse aids—can disrupt intestinal cell survival and barrier function, triggering inflammatory gene pathways even at dilution levels presumed safe (1:10,000–1:40,000)

  • Indian gastroenterologists are raising alarms that such damage to the gut’s epithelial lining may open doors to chronic and systemic conditions including food allergies, diabetes, obesity, cirrhosis, autoimmune disorders, depression, and even Alzheimer’s disease

  • Beyond scientific studies, consumer reports—particularly from Reddit users—share heartbreaking personal health stories:

  • “I started experiencing exacerbated mental health issues, digestive issues… after using a popular rinse‑aided spray soap… comprised of a hexyl ethoxylate” (a chemical in Dawn Powerwash spray)

⚠️ What the Evidence Tells Us

Alcohol Ethoxylates

  • Used in rinse aids and surface cleaners, these surfactants have been shown to damage gut epithelial cells and increase inflammation at realistic residue levels—especially in commercial dishwasher contexts with minimal dilution cycles

Triclosan & SLS/SLES

  • Triclosan—though banned in the U.S. for personal care—is still present in some dishwashing liquids and has been implicated in colon inflammation and hormone disruption

  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), common foaming agents, are associated with skin irritation, dermatitis, and may exacerbate conditions like eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE) when used chronically.

The “Good” Side: Safe, Sustainable Dishwashing Alternatives

Thankfully, not all dishwashing detergents are toxic. The market is evolving—with eco-friendly, non-toxic alternatives and rigorous chemical regulations in many countries. The United Kingdom and EU, for example, have stricter bans on risky additives, while consumer demand for “green” cleaning ingredients is driving companies to innovate.

Safer Options To Look For

  • Plant-based, biodegradable detergents: Avoid phosphates, synthetic fragrances, dyes, chlorine, and formaldehyde.
  • Brands with full ingredient transparency and labels free from “-eth” compounds or ambiguous “fragrance” listings.
  • Certified eco-labels and third-party safety verification, especially in North America and Europe.
  • Notable brands in 2025 that prioritize safety and performance include Blueland, Seventh Generation, Puracy, and Molly’s Suds—all offering effective cleaning without the chemical baggage.

The Shift in Consumer Awareness—By the Numbers

  • In 2024–2025, global demand for eco-friendly dishwashing products accelerated, with major brands offering plant-derived and additive-free solutions110.
  • Over 65% of new product launches in Western Europe now highlight “free-from” claims or green certifications in response to consumer demand10.
  • Sales of non-toxic dish detergents are projected to rise by more than 7% annually through 203510.

Key Takeaways

  • Bad detergents may contain carcinogens, hormone-disrupting chemicals, and substances that leave residues or contribute to long-term health risks.
  • Good detergents are free from harsh additives, use plant-based ingredients, and are transparent about their contents.
  • Read labels, demand transparency, and opt for “green,” well-reviewed brands—small changes at home can significantly boost health and environmental safety.

👉 Next time you shop for dishwashing liquid, remember: Cleaner dishes shouldn’t come with chemical baggage. Let’s advocate for safer, science-driven choices in every sink!

🎨 Why Do Fabrics Fade?

Ever wondered why your favorite jeans lose their color, while that sports jersey seems bright after seasons of wear?

The secret lies deep in dye chemistry and innovation in textile science.

Dye-Fiber Bonding: The Heart of Color

  • In products like denim jeans, indigo dye just clings to the fiber surface. This means every wash or rub literally sheds color, crafting those unique fades denim lovers crave.
  • That crisp medical uniform or luxury hotel linen? Likely dyed with reactive dyes, which form true chemical bonds (covalent) with cotton—so the color actually becomes part of the fabric and resists fading.

But Why Do Some Fabrics Outlast Others?

  • Ultraviolet light (from the sun) and harsh chemicals (bleach, detergent) can break dye bonds, causing fading.
  • Red dyes in particular are molecularly “fragile,” expiring faster under UV—hence faded red signs or shirts.
  • Atmospheric acids (from pollution) or incorrect pH during washing disrupt some dye-fiber bonds, causing premature color loss.

Real-Life Examples: Where the Science Shows

  • Sportswear and Outdoor Gear: Brands like The North Face and Patagonia often use disperse dyes for polyester, embedding color within the fiber itself—yielding high resistance to UV and wash cycles.
  • Denim Giants: Levi’s embraces the natural fading of indigo, designing jeans for personalized patina.
  • Workwear and Uniforms: Archroma and DyStar lead with high-fastness reactive and vat dyes, valued for hospital, hotel, or military textiles where color integrity is non-negotiable.

In Pursuit of Nothing : LIFE CAN BE

In Pursuit of Nothing

Some people simply live life the way they prefer. From morning until night, they embrace life without searching for anything specific; they just go with the flow, observing the crimson sky and clouds gradually fading and dissolving into the night.

They find joy in strolling down random streets, observing people chatting and relishing ordinary moments. They delight in watching puppies play with the waves, without seeking anything in others. I believe these individuals are incredibly precious, akin to diamonds. They gracefully navigate life, witnessing the universal struggles that everyone faces. They wake up to life as it unfolds, not resisting but accepting its darker aspects. They never resent life for its challenges, understanding that adversity is a shared experience among all living beings on Earth.

Observing the morning and night skies, witnessing puppies frolic in the grass, observing the clouds dissipate and the stars emerge at night, and appreciating the mundane events on unfamiliar streets might not bring financial gain. However, these are the quiet thoughts that soothe the heart and mind. They offer peace, allowing individuals to disconnect from the online world and relish their offline existence, embracing the serenity of pursuing nothing but silence.

Embracing Your Inner Demon: Unapologetically You

To whoever is reading this,

Today, I want to share a heartfelt message with you—a reminder that it's okay to embrace your inner demon, to wholeheartedly be yourself without shame or apology. In a world that often dictates how we should dress, look, and act, let us reclaim our authenticity, casting aside the superficial expectations that confine us. It's time to celebrate our raw emotions, to scream in anger, laugh in joy, and find solace in silence when our hearts are heavy.

Chapter 1: Embracing Our Shadows

Within each of us lies a realm of light and darkness, a dichotomy that makes us beautifully human. Let us not be ashamed of our imperfections, our quirks, and the parts of ourselves that society deems undesirable. Embracing our shadows allows us to acknowledge our vulnerabilities and discover the true strength that resides within. It is in our darkest moments that we learn the most profound lessons and forge connections with others who share similar struggles.

Chapter 2: Defying Society's Standards

The media bombards us with images of flawless beauty, offering a narrow definition of what it means to be attractive. But let us challenge these superficial ideals and redefine our own standards. Dress as you please, wear makeup or embrace your natural beauty, and walk with confidence, guided by your unique essence. Remember, true beauty radiates from within, and authenticity will always outshine the constraints of societal norms.

Chapter 3: Expressing Raw Emotions

Life is an intricate tapestry of emotions, ranging from overwhelming joy to deep sorrow. Our emotions are not meant to be suppressed or concealed but rather felt and expressed authentically. So, let us scream in anger when the weight of the world becomes unbearable. Let us laugh wholeheartedly when happiness overwhelms us. And let us honor the moments of silence when we need solitude and introspection. Embracing our raw emotions allows us to truly live and connect with our deepest selves.

Chapter 4: Celebrating Individuality

In a world that thrives on conformity, dare to celebrate your individuality. Let your quirks, passions, and unique perspectives shine brightly. Remember that it is our differences that make us beautiful and contribute to the rich tapestry of humanity. Embrace your quirks, pursue your passions unapologetically, and find solace in the knowledge that being true to yourself is a gift to the world.

I implore you to embark on a journey of self-discovery, embracing every facet of your being—the light and the darkness, the joy, and the sorrow. Break free from the chains of societal expectations and dare to be unapologetically yourself. Embrace your inner demon and allow it to guide you toward authenticity and self-acceptance.

May you find the strength and courage to celebrate your individuality, express your raw emotions without reservation, and defy the standards that confine us. Remember, you are worthy of love, respect, and acceptance exactly as you are.

With unwavering support

Embracing Life

Having a life is beautiful. Isn't it? No, having a life to live so long... sucks. When that life is something that you never wish to live, it really does suck. But what makes it amazing to me at a point is... what we choose to do with our lives.

Life is a mysterious journey that often leaves us pondering its purpose and our place in it. One of the questions that has plagued humanity for centuries is the purpose of our existence. What and why does God create me? What is my legacy? How do I find it out? These questions can be overwhelming and can lead to deep introspection and soul-searching.

It's not uncommon to feel lost or uncertain about our purpose in life. Many of us have grappled with the nagging feeling that there must be something more to our existence than just going through the motions. We yearn for a sense of meaning and fulfillment that will leave a lasting impact and create a legacy.

The search for purpose is deeply personal and unique to each individual. Some people find their calling early in life, while others embark on a lifelong journey of discovery. It's a quest that requires self-reflection, exploration, and a willingness to step outside of our comfort zones.

Finding your purpose is not about achieving a specific goal or attaining material success. It's about aligning your passions, values, and talents with the greater good. It's about positively impacting the world around you, no matter how big or small. It is not a destination but a lifelong journey. It's okay embracing our uniqueness, pursuing our passions, and make a positive impact to stay true to yourself and listen to your inner calling.

So, if you're still asking yourself, "What is my legacy?" or "How do I find my purpose?" know that you're not alone. Embrace the unknown, embrace the journey, and trust that your purpose will reveal itself when the time is right.

As for me, I'm still searching for my own purpose too. But I believe that embracing our uniqueness, pursuing our passions, and making a positive impact can create a meaningful and fulfilling life, regardless of the circumstances. So let's embark on this journey together and make the most of the beautiful gift of life we have been given.

"Embrace the journey of self-discovery and let it lead you to a life filled with meaning, purpose, and fulfillment."

Freedom in Commitment: Finding Happiness in Simplicity

I recently read page 186 of Mark Manson's book "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck," and this is actually my second time reading it. In this section, I realized that life can be fulfilling and happy with very little. In a world of constant notifications and social media tags, having one friend, two parents, and fewer siblings can be far more valuable than having one million followers on Instagram.

Sometimes, there is happiness in simplicity. Those few moments we have can be enough for a lifetime. I don't know for sure, but I genuinely feel that this is the case.

Like many girls in their 20s, I've done many things to please others, to make them like me, and to meet society's expectations. But now, these things don't make any sense to me. They don't make me or others happy.

I've decided to choose the people and things that truly matter in my life. I'm committing to less, which means fewer friends, interactions, and everything else. Strangely enough, this choice brings me happiness.

As the book says, "There is freedom and liberation in commitment. Depth is where the gold is buried. You have to stay committed to something and go deep to dig it up." I believe this to be true. By committing to fewer things, I'm less distracted and more at peace.

In conclusion, committing to less can be a source of freedom and happiness. We all should consider the things that truly matter in our lives and commit to them. Only then can we find the gold buried in the depth of our commitments.

"Vishu's Tradition: A Timeless Legacy of Customs and Values"

Vishu: A Special Day in Kerala Tradition

Vishu is one of the most important festivals in the state of Kerala, celebrated on the first day of the Malayalam month of Medam. It is also known as the Malayalam New Year and marks the beginning of a new year for the people of Kerala. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy across the state and is an integral part of the culture and tradition of Kerala.

Customs and Traditions:

Vishu is a day of joy and celebration. On this day, people wake up early in the morning to see the Vishukkani, which is an arrangement of auspicious items such as rice, fruits, vegetables, flowers, gold coins, and a mirror, arranged in a pot or a tray. The Vishukkani is set up the night before by the women of the household and is meant to bring good luck and prosperity to the family for the rest of the year.

The first thing that people see on Vishu morning is the Vishukkani, which is believed to set the tone for the rest of the year. People dress up in new clothes, offer prayers to the deity, and exchange greetings and gifts with family and friends. The traditional greeting for Vishu is 'Vishu Ashamsakal' which means 'Happy Vishu.'

One of the other important customs of Vishu is the giving of 'Vishukkaineetam,' which is a token amount of money given to children and other family members as a sign of goodwill and prosperity. This is usually given along with the traditional sweet dish called 'Vishu Katta,' which is made from rice flour, coconut milk, and jaggery.

Rituals:

Vishu is also a day for performing various rituals and ceremonies. One of the most important rituals of Vishu is the 'Vishu Kani,' which is performed by the eldest member of the family. This involves setting up the Vishukkani and offering prayers to the deity.

Another important ritual is the 'Vishu Sadya,' a grand feast prepared on Vishu day. The feast includes a variety of dishes such as sambar, aviyal, thoran, olan, and payasam. The feast is usually served on a banana leaf and is meant to symbolize the abundance and prosperity of the harvest season.

Historical Significance:

Vishu has a rich historical significance in Kerala. It is believed that the festival originated during the reign of the King of Kerala, Cheraman Perumal, who ruled the state during the 8th century. According to legend, the king was visited by Lord Vishnu in his dream and was given a vision of the Vishukkani. The king then introduced the festival of Vishu as a way of celebrating the New Year and the harvest season.

Over the years, Vishu has become an integral part of the culture and tradition of Kerala. It is a day of joy and celebration, where people come together to pray, exchange greetings, and enjoy delicious food. Vishu is also a day for reflection and introspection, where people look back on the past year and make resolutions for the year ahead.

In conclusion, Vishu is a special day in the Kerala tradition, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy. The festival is steeped in customs and traditions, which reflect the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. It is a time for family, friends, and community to come together and celebrate the New Year and the harvest season.

Dreams Unleashed

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined." - Henry David Thoreau

Dreams have long been a source of fascination and wonder for humans. Throughout history, dreams have been interpreted as everything from divine messages to random neurological firings. However, recent research has shed new light on the impact of dreams on human behavior and decision-making, and the role they play in shaping our future.

According to some experts, dreams are a form of unconscious problem-solving. When we dream, our brains are able to process and consolidate information that we may not be consciously aware of. This can lead to insights and revelations that may influence our behavior and decision-making in the future.

In addition, dreams have been shown to play a critical role in the manifestation of human future and choices. When we dream about our goals and aspirations, we are able to visualize them more clearly and make them more tangible. This can help us to stay motivated and focused on achieving our dreams, even in the face of obstacles and setbacks.

Furthermore, some experts believe that dreams can help us to uncover our deepest desires and aspirations. By analyzing our dreams and the symbols and themes that appear in them, we can gain insights into our subconscious minds and understand what truly motivates us. This can help us to make more informed choices about our lives and pursue our passions with greater purpose and clarity.

Of course, not all dreams are positive or helpful. Nightmares and other disturbing dreams can have a negative impact on our behavior and well-being. However, even these types of dreams can be valuable if we take the time to analyze and understand them. By confronting our fears and anxieties in our dreams, we can learn to better manage them in our waking lives and make more informed choices about our behavior.

In conclusion, dreams are a powerful tool for shaping our behavior and influencing our choices. Whether we are dreaming about our goals and aspirations or confront our deepest fears and anxieties, our dreams have a profound impact on our lives. By taking the time to analyze and understand our dreams, we can gain insights into our subconscious minds and make more informed choices about our future. So the next time you have a dream, take a moment to reflect on its meaning and the role it may be playing in shaping your destiny.

"Taking Responsibility: The Path to True Freedom and Happiness"

"Freedom and responsibility go together. If you want to be free, you have to take responsibility for everything you do." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

In this blog, we will explore the relationship between freedom and responsibility, and why it is crucial to understand and embrace both if we want to live a fulfilling and meaningful life. We will also discuss practical steps we can take to become more responsible and empowered individuals. So, let's dive in and discover how we can achieve true freedom by taking responsibility for our lives.

Being responsible for your own life can be both empowering and challenging. It requires you to take ownership of your decisions, actions, and outcomes, and to understand that your happiness and well-being are ultimately your responsibility. However, it also means that you have the power to shape your life in a way that aligns with your values and brings you fulfillment. Here are some simple but powerful steps you can take to be responsible for your own life and be happy at the same time.

1.    Set clear goals and priorities

One of the first steps to being responsible for your own life is to set clear goals and priorities. This means taking the time to reflect on what is truly important to you and what you want to achieve in life. Set realistic and specific goals that align with your values and give you a sense of purpose. Once you have identified your goals and priorities, create a plan to achieve them, and take action consistently.

2.    Take ownership of your decisions and actions

Being responsible for your own life means taking ownership of your decisions and actions, both good and bad. This means recognizing that you have the power to make choices that shape your life and taking responsibility for the outcomes that result from those choices. When you make a mistake, take accountability for it, and learn from it. This can help you grow as a person and make better decisions in the future.

3.    Cultivate a positive mindset

Your mindset plays a significant role in how you experience life. Cultivating a positive mindset can help you approach challenges with resilience and optimism. Focus on the good in your life and practice gratitude for the things you have. When faced with adversity, look for opportunities to grow and learn from the experience. Remember that your mindset is within your control, and choose to view life in a positive light.

4.   Build strong relationships

Human beings are social creatures, and having strong relationships is essential for our well-being. Cultivate meaningful connections with family, friends, and colleagues. Be present in your interactions and actively listen to others. Remember to give as much as you receive in your relationships and practice empathy and kindness.

5.    Practice self-care

Taking care of yourself is crucial for being responsible for your own life and being happy at the same time. Make time for self-care activities such as exercise, meditation, or hobbies that bring you joy. Take care of your physical health by getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, and taking breaks when you need them.

In conclusion, being responsible for your own life is a powerful and rewarding journey. By setting clear goals, taking ownership of your decisions and actions, cultivating a positive mindset, building strong relationships, and practicing self-care, you can create a fulfilling and happy life that aligns with your values and aspirations. Remember that happiness is a choice, and you have the power to choose it every day.

"The Illusion of Happiness: Are We Really in Control of Our Lives?"

Sometimes the stars look amazing, and sometimes the moon is brighter. We all get caught up in memories of someone in our lives who seems brighter one day and dulls the next. Making love with those irrational moments is tough and requires patience. Just making someone else happy is good, but what about you? Are you happy at that time? Maybe, yes. We all have those souls inside of us that tell us if we can make others happy, that’s good. Yes, maybe, I totally agree, but something is missing with those enlightened words. We all need someone to make us happy. Do we? Sometimes, I too need someone to hold my hand or just hug me tightly and say nothing, just that hold. Why? Because we are all emotional beings. But is that the real case? I think not.

About feelings, emotions, and so much more, we are mistaken by numerous others that we are attached, emotional, feeling, and all the other things that make us human. But maybe that’s right. How does that concern the way we live, the way we dream, the way we see, the way we perceive others?

What if we are all connected? What if we are those ancestors that already lived and died and are now living the same life with enhanced technology being controlled by the so-called someone? Maybe that someone can be anyone. That anyone could be media influence. Today, the media tells us what the right way to live, love, laugh, succeed, fail, care, have relationships, and so much more is. They control the way one reacts to memes or to someone else. Now, even the way you can be you is decided by others, despite our own intentions to live our lives the way we need to. It's just a myth now. The one who lives is the one who has no media control over himself.

Others, all the others, are changing the way the media filters their lives to showcase themselves as someone they are not, managing the content on their profile to show others that they are this and that, trying to find the meaning of life by googling it to give themselves a purpose and meaning.

We are bombarded with messages from the media telling us what we should do, how we should look, and how we should feel. We get caught up in other people's lives and try to emulate what we see online, but forget to focus on our own journey. The truth is, happiness is a personal experience that cannot be dictated by others. We must take control of our lives and make choices that align with our values and beliefs. We must learn to embrace our emotions, both positive and negative, and use them to guide us towards a fulfilling life. By being true to ourselves, we can break free from the illusion of happiness and find true joy and contentment in our lives. So, let's take a step back, reflect on our lives, and make the necessary changes to create the life we truly want.

The Perks of Being an Introvert: Embracing Your Quiet Side

As a simple girl who identifies as an introvert, I know firsthand the many benefits of being one. While it may be easy to feel overlooked or misunderstood in a world that values outgoing personalities and extroverted traits, introverts have a lot to offer. Here are just a few of the perks of being an introvert:

  1. Creativity: Introverts are often deep thinkers and are more likely to spend time reflecting on their thoughts and ideas. This introspective nature can lead to creative breakthroughs and innovative ideas.
  2. Self-awareness: Introverts tend to be more in tune with their own thoughts and feelings, which can lead to a better understanding of themselves and what they need to be happy and fulfilled.
  3. Strong connections: While introverts may not have as many acquaintances as extroverts, they tend to have deeper, more meaningful relationships with the people they do connect with. These strong connections can provide a source of comfort and support in times of need.
  4. Independence: Introverts often enjoy spending time alone, which can lead to a sense of independence and self-reliance. This can empower and lead to greater confidence in one's abilities.
  5. Listening skills: Because introverts tend to be more thoughtful and deliberate in their communication, they often make great listeners. This can lead to better understanding and stronger relationships with others.

Of course, being an introvert isn't always easy. It can be challenging to navigate a world that seems to value extroversion above all else. But by embracing our quiet side and recognizing the many perks of being an introvert, we can learn to appreciate our unique qualities and contribute our strengths to the world in our own way.

"Solitude is creativity's best friend, and solitude is refreshment for our souls." - Naomi Judd
